Health experts are warning about the dangers of eating a high dose of pomegranate seeds nutrition supplement.
The seeds are a staple food of India and have been used as a source of vitamins and nutrients for millennia.
It is also widely believed to be the source of the pomegrange root used in traditional Chinese medicine.
But the seeds are often mislabeled as a root, and even the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has said they contain no vitamin C.
The Federal Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) said that a supplement called pomegron can contain about 300 milligrams of vitamin C, but the agency also said it is not the most effective way to provide this vitamin.
So the FDA said it will no longer allow any supplement that has a more potent vitamin content.
The supplement manufacturer has not responded to ABC News’ request for comment.
But it is just one of many concerns that health experts have raised about the nutritional value of the seeds.
The FDA said the pomelos are an important source of folate, which is a vitamin that is needed to build strong bones.
But there is a growing body of scientific evidence that shows that the nutrients contained in pomeganos do not help build strong bone, the FDA added.
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) said the seeds contain very little folate and that there is not enough research to determine whether it is a good idea to consume pomeguenas supplement.
A spokesperson for the American Dietetic Association (ADA) said its members have not been able to find enough data to determine if the seeds will help build stronger bones.
The FDA has also warned that a low dose of vitamin B6, which can be helpful in protecting against heart disease, is toxic to humans.
And the agency added that pomegans vitamin B-12 is toxic.
So if you want to add a few more vitamins to your diet, there is no reason to consume a pomega supplement.ABC News’ Emily Ransom contributed to this report.
